Surveillance of recreational crafts market products

IT

Surveillance, together with the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy, on the market of recreational crafts products.

Directive RCD 53/2013/EU applies to:

  • recreational crafts, defined as crafts intended for sporting or recreational purposes, with a hull length between 2.5 and 24 meters, regardless of type or propulsion;
  • personal watercraft, defined as a recreational craft less than 4 meters with a water jet engine in which people stand, sit, or kneel above the hull.

A recreational craft must be CE marked before being placed on the market or put into service. There are some exceptions to the CE marking, which are listed in Directive RCD 53/2013/EU.

Conformity assessment (CE certification):

The CE marking can be applied when the recreational craft meets the requirements of Directive RCD 53/2013/EU. There are various procedures for determining conformity, which are described in the regulation. The manufacturer must prepare a declaration of conformity and an owner's manual.

Using harmonized standards, the manufacturer establishes a "presumption of conformity," certifying that the recreational craft meets the requirements of Directive RCD 53/2013/EU. The standards are constantly updated by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), and the manufacturer must always use the latest version.

Manufacturer ID

A domestic manufacturer must request a manufacturer identifier (MIC: Manufacturer Identification Code) valid throughout the EU/EEA, issued in Italy by UCINA on behalf of the Ministry of infrastructure and transport. A non-EU manufacturer must request it from the Ministry of infrastructure and transport by sending a specific request to: dg.vptm@mit.gov.it , dg.tm@pec.mit.gov.it.
