The participation of Minister Toninelli at Innotrans 2018 event in Berlin, (on 17 and 18 September 2018), which is the first world’s leading trade fair for rail transport technology, (over 3,000 exhibitors, of which 62% from foreign countries and 137,000 trade visitors), has enabled to bring together and promote “Made in Italy” excellences of railway sector, in a Fair in which Italy is the fourth biggest exhibitor Country after Germany, China and France.
The event provided the opportunity to hold the first bilateral meeting with Mr. Andreas Scheuer, Minister of Transport and Digital Infrastructure of Germany. The meeting confirmed the willingness of both Countries to enhance their cooperation on all issues of common interest in the transport sector, both at bilateral and EU level.
In this context, the Ministers exchange their views on possible means to further enhance the development of electric mobility, in their Countries and in the EU framework.
With specific regard to the Brenner Base Tunnel, both Ministers discussed on “bottlenecks” issue, which affects road traffic along some road sections, especially at the Austrian border, reaffirming their joint commitment to strengthen coordination on this issue, in order to prevent damage to haulage sector.
Furthermore, during the meeting, the two Ministers have agreed to move forward and give impulse to the Zurich Process, a formal platform of cooperation of the Ministers of Transport of the Alpine Countries, which was established in 2001, including Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, France, Slovenia and Liechtenstein, with the aim to improve road safety in the Alpine region and gradually transfer heavy traffic crossing the Alps from road to rail.
